This is Sarah H's favorite gravel route. Start your ride by parking near the Firefly Section in Maxeys or at the Post Office - make sure you do not block the doors to the fire station. Once you turn on left on Hill St only 0.2 mile from the Post Office it is just a short jaunt downhill to the gravel. Make your way around quiet country roads to Macedonia Church Rd where just after turning right you'll see Dairy Cows. Your next right is Oconee Forest National Forest and Scull Shoals Historic Site. As you pedal through the National Forest enjoy the scenery and quiet nature of this hidden gem just outside of Athens. There are two creek crossings on this route, ample climbing, and it is mostly gravel with two very short sections of paved road.
