Alaska Adventuring

Kris spent 10 days riding his bike in Alaska in February. We were so stoked to hear about how his trip went we asked him to please come in and share a slide show with us and with you. We can't wait to hear his stories and learn from his experiences!

Join us at 6:00pm on April 17 for a slideshow with Kris.

Kris is a local veterinarian and hybrid athlete whose love for the wilderness led him to working for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race starting in the winter of 2012. During his adventures along the trail, he occasionally crossed paths with athletes trying to conquer the same 1000 mile trail on foot or bike as part of the Iditarod Trail Invitational (ITI). This ultra race across the state of Alaska from Anchorage to Nome, occurs in the height of the winter and is minimally supported. Participants are required to be self reliant, carrying all the gear needed to complete the race and survive the elements.  As Kris' fitness journey progressed and winter camping skills improved, he set his eyes on one day completing this 1000 mile journey himself.  He recently completed the qualifying training camp along with a 100 mile winter bikepacking trip through the Alaska Range. He hopes to receive an invitation to participate in next year's 350 mile ITI in the coming weeks, with dreams of completing the 1000 mile race in 2027.
